The Irish murder mystery that’s just dropped on Netflix is said to ‘keep viewers on edge’, according to those who’ve already binged it.

Clean Sweep has recently landed on the streaming giant and swiftly climbed into the top 10 most-watched shows in the UK.

Remarkably, this surge in popularity comes even though the series can still be streamed for free on BBC iPlayer, where it first premiered in 2023.

It appears to have garnered more buzz since making its way to Netflix, with fans raving about the twists and turns of the six-part drama.

The plot centres around Shelly Mohan, portrayed by Charlene McKenna, a housewife and mother-of-three, and her husband Jason, a Garda detective, reports the Mirror.

Their seemingly normal life spirals into chaos when a dark secret from her past comes back to haunt them, and he finds himself leading the investigation into it while ambitiously pursuing a promotion.

During its initial airing on BBC, some viewers likened it to another acclaimed show, claiming it’s ‘just like Killing Eve’ and definitely worth the watch.

Now on Netflix, at the time of writing, it’s snagged the fourth spot in the top ten shows on the platform, not far off the heels of the new hit season of The Diplomat.

A review posted on Rotten Tomatoes upon its original release praised the series, reading: “This series will sweep viewers out of their chairs with twists and thrills. Clean Sweep is filled with grit and mystery that will keep viewers on edge and not knowing who to believe or what’s ‘true’.”

One viewer remarked: “Dense and twisty murder mystery series with a far-reaching case. An intriguing fast-paced psychological drama and police procedural in which we root for the baddie.”

This isn’t the first time that a show of this nature has experienced a resurgence in popularity through the streaming platform.

A number of Channel 5 original dramas have seen an uptick in viewers, and Clean Sweep is the latest to join the ranks of under-the-radar hits gaining a second wind on Netflix.

Clean Sweep is streaming on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
