The Minister of National Education made a series of announcements as part of “Act 2 of the clash of knowledge”, Tuesday November 12. Guest of the franceinfo morning show, Laurent Frajerman, sociologist specializing in educational issues, looks back on level groups in middle school.
The Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet, unveiled on Tuesday November 12 a series of measures for middle and high schools. An “Act 2 of the shock of knowledge” which comes a little less than a year after the first measures revealed by Gabriel Attal, who then held this position.
Anne Genetet notably announced that the middle school level groups would continue on the same model in 6th and 5th grade next year. What is the assessment of the first level groups in middle school, one year after their creation? “They have just been put in place, and what’s more, the majority of establishments, according to the unions, have not put them in place”says Laurent Frajerman, sociologist specializing in educational issues, on franceinfo.
The sociologist believes that “the idea that we should not have uniform education”either the “fond” of the measurement, is “majority in opinion” but also “at the teachers”. “On the other hand, the way in which it was implemented actually caused an outcry because, particularly among teachers, there is always the idea: ‘Be careful of social sorting’”underlines Laurent Frajerman.
