Manchester United have parted ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy, after Ruben Amorim took over as head coach.

Minutes after Ruben Amorim was pictured arriving as Manchester United head coach, it was announced Ruud van Nistelrooy would be leaving.

Van Nistelrooy is one of four staff members departing, making way for Ruben Amorim’s new coaching team.

United brought Van Nistelrooy in to work on Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff in the summer, before he was fired at the end of October.

Van Nistelrooy then stepped up in interim charge, winning three and drawing one of his four matches in charge.

Casemiro pays tribute to Van Nistelrooy

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure was abrupt, just 24 hours after full-time of United’s home win over Leicester.

Yet it was also decisive, avoiding the need to keep him hanging around waiting for answers, turning it into a drawn-out saga. You suspect Van Nistelrooy has probably known this would be the case too.

The first player to pay tribute to Van Nistelrooy was Brazilian star Casemiro, who posted on Instagram.

Casemiro wrote powerfully: “Forever grateful. Legend.”

He shared an image of the embrace they shared on the Old Trafford touchline when he was substituted, in which he visibly demonstrated how much Van Nistelrooy meant to him.

Van Nistelrooy aided Casemiro’s return to form, selecting a more compact midfield, and establishing his partnership with Manuel Ugarte, which has been labelled ‘horrible to play against’.

Van Nistelrooy will be in demand

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s exit from Manchester United is the right move, for all parties concerned, allowing a clean break.

Van Nistelrooy will be in-demand, he has boosted his own reputation during his interim spell, viewed as a steadying influence who also calmed the dressing room, and had a savvy tactical approach.

Casemiro’s message shows how highly valued he is by the players too, and that’s so important in this day and age.

We would predict Van Nistelrooy won’t be out of work long, it would not even be a surprise to see him land a Premier League job, and try his luck up against Amorim.
