A few days after the announcement of the results, three American writers, Barbara Kingsolver, David Grann and Aleksandar Hemon, did not hide their disappointment or their bitterness.
Disgusted. Three leading American writers do not hide their anger, perhaps because they were far from having anticipated the pro-Trump tidal wave. With one exception: that of Barbara Kingsolver. Born in 1955 in Maryland, Pulitzer Prize 2023 for “They call me Demon Copperhead” (Albin Michel), Barbara grew up in Kentucky and today resides in the Appalachians, in a rural environment. “This is the reason why, she explains, I was better prepared for the outcome of this election than my friends living in New York and California, many of whom don't know a single person who voted for Trump. I live among Trump supporters and see their signs every day. Despite this, I was devastated by the results and am deeply saddened. I had hoped for better. »
Far from deep America, David Grann made his career at the “New Yorker”. One of the masters of non-fiction in the United States has published long-term investigations that directors are eager to buy: “The American Note”, for example, from which Martin Scorcese took “Killers of the Flower Moon”. For him, the vote for Trump, unlike in 2016, is not based on any misunderstanding:
