The Spurs have been a little maddening to watch this year. It’s easy to see that the team is better this year than last year, as the record shows, but they’re also prone to the same sorts of mistakes they made last year that lead to losing winnable games. The Jazz had, with Lauri Markkanen back in the lineup were a tougher out in their second meeting with the Spurs, but this was a team that the Silver and Black should be able to beat, even with Jeremy Sochan on the bench with a broken thumb.
The Spurs played down to their youth, and gave the visitors life from the opening tip so that they always had confidence. The Spurs were able to keep the game close and had a shot late, but too many mistakes late and bad fouls cost them a shot at a win as they lost 111-110.
Tonight they play the Sacramento Kings, who are a much improved team after adding Demar DeRozan to their existing lineup with De’Aaron Fox and Damontis Sabonis. The Kings should be a playoff team this year, so they’ll provide a tough test for the fledgling Spurs. The Kings played a late game last night, so the Spurs have a rest advantage and they’ve played well this season with a rest advantage, previously outlasting a tired Timberwolves team on November 2. So long as the Kings don’t find Boris Diaw’s expresso machine in the visitor’s locker room, the Spurs should have an energy advantage tonight.
Shipwrecks and Musical Interludes:
A few days ago, we were having discussions of musical ballads in the comment section, and this song came up. It’s a story about some brave men who ran into a bit of bad weather, on November 10, 1975. That’s 49 years and one day ago. Watch out for the gales of November, especially when you’re heavily laden with iron ore.
Playback with Pounding the Rock:
Marilyn Dubinski, J.R. Wilco, and Jacob Douglas will be streaming the game and interacting with PTR readers on Playback. It’s just another way to enjoy the game, so join us there or in the discussion thread. Or do both.
Game Prediction:
The Chorus story editor will break, and Mark will not finish the story on time
One final word:
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
