SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) – U.S. supermarket chain Food Lion was recently hit with a cybersecurity attack, the company confirmed last week.
Ahold Delhaize announced Friday, Nov. 8 that a “cybersecurity issue” had been recently detected among its USA division and brands. Those brands include Food Lion, Giant, The Giant Company, and more.
Some of the companies’ systems had since been taken offline to “help protect them” after the cyber attack was identified, officials said in a press release. The attack was under investigation by security teams with Ahold Delhaize USA, and officials said that law enforcement had been notified.
Some operations were disrupted by the attack.
“This issue and subsequent mitigating actions have affected certain Ahold Delhaize USA brands and services including a number of pharmacies and certain e-commerce operations,” the business said. “We will continue to take actions to further protect our systems. The security of our customers, associates and partners is a top priority.”
Food Lion stores have remained open since the attack. Most of the supermarket’s stores — more than 500 — are located in North Carolina, where the brand is headquartered.
Food Lion also has stores in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
