Are we finally going to say goodbye to gray skies? For the past two weeks, clouds and fog have prevailed over France, particularly in the West and the North. But the weather for the coming week seems milder even if temperatures will cool down, marking the start of winter. We take stock.
Return of the sun on Tuesday
This Monday, November 11 marks the last day of mild weather with gray weather, as a cooling is expected on Tuesday, November 12. This week, the sun will reappear in the west of France, according to Météo France forecasts. Part of the South will be in the rain. Stormy showers are forecast, particularly in Bouches-du-Rhône, on Tuesday. Temperatures will be between 4°C in the morning in Bourg-Saint-Maurice (Savoie) and 17°C in Ajaccio (Southern Corsica).
According to the Météo Chaîne, France will pass into a northerly flow from Tuesday and the anticyclone will not persist: “The anticyclone will retreat towards the British Isles, letting fairly cold air infiltrate over Central Europe, forming a depression, synonymous with unstable weather. »
Rain and snow in mid-altitude mountains are also expected this week, between Tuesday and Thursday. “From the Jura to the Northern Alps and the northern slopes of Auvergne, 10 to 15 cm of fresh snow could fall at 1,500 m altitude,” noted the Weather Channel. The values will fall below seasonal norms, and the feeling will be quite cold. “You will have 7° of feeling in Paris and Marseille”, warns the Weather Channel on X.

Arrival of a cold drop phenomenon
This drop in temperatures is explained by the passage of a cold drop phenomenon over the countries of Central Europe. “A cold drop is a pocket of very cold air located at an altitude of more than 5,000 m. Its positioning can fluctuate, depending on the surrounding warmer air masses,” explains Météo France on its site.
Thursday, November 14, morning temperatures are between -1°C in Chaumont (Haute-Marne) and 12°C in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales). In the afternoon, they will oscillate between 6°C and 19°C.
Bad weather is to be feared in the Mediterranean regions because of this cold drop. The south-east of France is affected by heavy stormy rains between Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence and Corsica, according to the Météo Chaîne.
Friday November 15, the return of blue skies will be confirmed, except in the north of France where clouds are expected. The drop in temperatures continues, with 0°C in eastern France. “A classic first cold snap for mid-November”, however tempers the Weather Channel.
