The 58-year-old man was walking a friend's dog. He died from his injuries. The alleged perpetrator was arrested according to our information. It would be a homeless person. He had stolen a knife shortly before from a furniture and decoration store located a few dozen meters away.
The events took place around 6:00 p.m., along the Roubaix canal in Marcq-en-Barœul. The victim, who had just watched the LOSC match in the company of a friend, the dog's owner, then decided to go for a walk with the Malinois, alone.
The bad encounter took place on the towpath of the Roubaix canal, not far from the Burger King and the Centrakor in Marcq-en-Barœul (map).
According to our information, a jogger performed a cardiac massage on the victim until the firefighters and emergency services arrived. But the fifty-year-old succumbed to his injury.
It is not clear why the alleged attacker stabbed the victim in what appears, at the moment, to be a gratuitous act.
The investigation will have to determine the circumstances of the murder. It was Bernard Gérard, the mayor of Marcq-en-Barœul, very shocked by this tragedy, who warned the family of the victim's death.
