Five out of nine. FC Porto lost the fifth of the last nine Clasicos and suffered the second defeat in a row, something that hadn’t happened for practically a year, in addition to having conceded four goals in a single game — whereas, in the other nine rounds of the Brazilian Championship, they had conceded exactly the same four goals.
After the game, in the quick interview area, Alan Varela acknowledged that the game “was a shame” for FC Porto. “We were all over the field, we had a good first half, but the second half didn’t work out and we suffered in a studied play. They put themselves in front and we didn’t respond. We left everything on the field, but we couldn’t go after the game. Obviously it hurts, losing points and of course, in a Clásico, but the moment continues, there is a lot of Championship and we are still hungry, so that FC Porto can be as high as possible in the table”, indicated the Argentine midfielder.
Dissatisfaction with the performance of Vítor Bruno’s team was also evident in the reaction of FC Porto fans present at Estádio da Luz, who showed white scarves when the players approached to thank the stands for their support. Francisco J. Marques, former communications director for the dragons, threw himself into the leadership of André Villas-Boas and recalled that the club had not conceded four goals from Benfica for 60 years.

“Do you know how many times, as president of FC Porto, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa conceded four goals from Benfica? In 42 years of presidency, none. Now the Lisbon press will speak highly of FC Porto and its directors. I miss when we were all ‘lucky fans’”, he wrote on social media.
