Jannik Sinner’s adventure begins at the ATP Finals in Turin. Today, Sunday 10 November, the Italian will challenge the Australian Alex de Minaur (the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the American Taylor Fritz are the other two rivals in the group): it will be the fourth match of a program that starts at 11.30.
The precedents between Sinner and De Minaur
The two have met seven times in their careers and the world number one has always had the upper hand. The last match took place during the final of the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, a tournament in which the Italian won with a score of 7-5, 6-4 (18 February). «It’s the first time after 12 months that I’ve played in Italy again, I’m very happy. Turin is important to me and this is a special tournamentwhich went very well last year and I hope the same this year too. I feel a lot of warmth and affection from the Italian fans, we hope to have an excellent tournament”, said Sinner a few days ago.
«It will be very important how we start the tournament. A win in the first match would be very important, so we are raising the level of preparation, I’m also putting a lot of effort into making improvements. We are still getting used to a slightly slower pitch but we train every day. It’s a tournament where you have to be at 100% straight away,” he concluded. A curiosity: an Italian player has never won the ATP Finals. In the 2023 edition Jannik was defeated in the final by Novak Djokovic, who was absent this year due to injury.
