A painful moment for Ajax in the away match against FC Twente: just before half time, Mika Godts had to leave with a hamstring injury. It is a hard blow for the Amsterdam team, who are not very well versed in left wingers this season.
Just before the end of regular playing time in the first half, the nineteen-year-old Belgian tried to control a difficult high ball. That turned out to be too difficult and it hit his hamstring. Ajax, which had just taken the 1-0, played out the first half with ten men.
It is hoped for Francesco Farioli’s team that Godts’ injury will not be too bad. The Belgian is the only left winger in Ajax’s selection. Last summer, Steven Bergwijn left for Al-Ittihad, while Carlos Forbs and Naci Ünüvar were loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Espanyol respectively.
To compensate for Godts’ absence, Farioli will have to shuffle players around. The most logical thing seems to be to move Chuba Akpom, a natural center forward, to the left. In preparation for the current season, midfielder Kian Fitz-Jim also played in the left front position.
