Grazac. Emotion and solemnity at the commemoration of the armistice

The ceremony commemorating the armistice of November 11, 1918 was an opportunity to bring together all generations yesterday morning in front of the commune's war memorial. An opportunity to pay tribute to the fighters, to realize that these are people from the sector, from the commune who gave their lives for freedom. During this ceremony, one of the children of the Grazac youth council (GCJ) read a poem “On the Field of Honor” by John Mac Crae, a Canadian military doctor and poet who died in January 1918. A historical evocation of two Grazac poilus, Célestins Jamans and Louis Mercadier, both of whom died in Belgium in October and November 1914, was also made by the GCJ. “There was a lot of emotion, solemnity and respect during this commemoration” recognizes Claude Chelingue, 2nd deputy mayor. Mayor Christophe Gourmanel, after reading the message from the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans, stated the list of deaths for in the commune during the two world conflicts. “World news pushes us to remember that freedom and peace are fragile goods and must be protected more than ever” comments a citizen.
