Under the theme “The Morocco of cultures in Sharjah of books”, the Moroccan pavilion offers a rich program of 107 events, bringing together around a hundred writers, authors and publishers, and composed of scientific conferences, artistic exhibitions , plays, round tables and workshops for children, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in Moroccan heritage.

Among the highlights of the Moroccan pavilion, a scientific conference focused on the specificity of Moroccan identity, forged by a rich history and a plural heritage. In the presence of Moroccan researchers and academics, the speakers explored the multiple facets of the Kingdom's identity, shaped in particular by its geographical location between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

Moroccan identity at the heart of discussions

Sociologist Rahma Bourqia stressed that this identity reflects Morocco's interactions with its geographic and societal environment. “The Moroccan personality is a mirror of multiple belongings, enriched by a constant openness to the world.“, she explained, recalling that the Moroccan constitution highlights the different tributaries who shaped it, whether Arab-Islamic, Amazigh, Saharan-Hassani, African, Hebrew or Mediterranean.

The historian Jamaâ Baida, for his part, evoked the historical continuity of these cultural values, anchored in customs and traditions to which Moroccans remain attached, highlighting the Moroccan cultural heritage, rich for several centuries, and the way in which it continues. to influence the way of life and values ​​of society.

Finally, Abdelilah Benarafa, deputy director general of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), noted that Moroccan identity also testifies to historical and scientific exchanges with the rest of the world, affirming that it has established itself over time as an “ambassador”, strengthening cultural and intellectual links with other nations.

An immersive cultural program

In addition to conferences and round tables, the Moroccan pavilion offers culinary discoveries with sessions devoted to the flavors of Moroccan cuisine, as well as artistic workshops for all ages. Around 4,000 titles from 25 Moroccan publishing houses are also exhibited, composing a panorama of Moroccan literary production.

Morocco's participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair, which continues until November 12, is part of an effort to strengthen cultural and intellectual ties with the Arab world and reflects the Kingdom's commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and a better understanding of its multiple heritage.
