The sporting event of the weekend is the tenth edition of the Vendée Globe, the start of which is scheduled for November 10. Forty sailors are preparing to leave tomorrow for a solo round-the-world trip.
In Sables-d'Olonne, a human tide is gathering less than 24 hours before the start of the Vendée Globe. There is excitement as everyone waits for the sailors to set off. The 40 sailors will set off alone on their boats for a world tour expected to last at least 70 days.
Life on board will mainly take place in a cockpit of only a few square meters. Navigator Jérémie Beyou will also have a sleeping area. But, he won't spend much time there. The efforts required are difficult so the encouragement of loved ones provides motivation. The friends of sailor Sébastien Simon have reserved one last visit for him before his departure: “I can’t wait to leave and I can’t wait to get back now.”he explains.
Tomorrow, several hundred thousand spectators are expected to come and enjoy the departure from the seaside, a boon for traders.
