BVB is struggling, but the hope of their first away win remains. Will Mainz 05 be a test for Dortmund?
Dortmund – Borussia Dortmund faces another test after the Black and Yellows triumphed against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Sturm Graz in the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund is at the edge of its strength
BVB is aiming for its first away win in the Bundesliga in the away game against Mainz 05 and, despite all the injury concerns, would like to finally confirm that they are on the right path.
The game against the intense and aggressive Rheinhessen could require an enormous effort. However, the decimated squad is exhausted and the English weeks have used up a lot of energy.
Şahin is looking forward to the upcoming international break
Julian Ryerson got fit in time to replace the suspended Ramy Bensebaini at left-back, but only Yan Couto and Donyell Malen are on the substitutes' bench as professionals. And Couto “is on the ball, but there won't be much today,” said Nuri Şahin Sky about a possible deployment of the full-back.
Şahin emphasized that he was “not worried” at Ryerson, as the Norwegian was “rested” again after his exhaustion injury despite only taking part in team training. Nevertheless, Şahin is looking forward to the upcoming international break.
“We have to do it again today and then we have a short break when the boys get a bit of grace from the national team,” said the 36-year-old, who still expects full commitment in Mainz: “You know that that can’t be an excuse at all may.”
However, without Gregor Kobel, Waldemar Anton, Niklas Süle, Bensebaini, Giovanni Reyna, Karim Adeyemi and Julien Duranville, Şahin lacks the options to maintain the pressure during the game. Only Malen will be able to provide an impulse – whether that will work as well as it did against Graz remains to be seen.
