The pitchside journalist for DAZN, Ambre Godillon, was hit by a projectile in the face Friday evening at the Vélodrome, during the Ligue 1 match between OM and Auxerre (1-3). RMC Sport was able to have access to images of the incident.
“Thank you for the messages”: Ambre Godillon discreetly welcomed the reactions after she was hit by a projectile, Friday November 8 at the Vélodrome stadium. A fieldside journalist for DAZN, the main broadcaster of Ligue 1, she received an object in the face during the first period of the match lost by OM against Auxerre (3-1), while the Marseillais were already trailing 3- 0.
A video, which RMC Sport obtained, allows us to get an idea of the moment when the projectile was launched from a high part of the Jean-Bouin stand.
A projectile which hits a tarpaulin before hitting the journalist
In this video, taken facing the stand, we see Ambre Godillon positioned down below, behind a sideline, at the entrance to the corridor which brings the players onto the pitch from the locker rooms.
The projectile that we can see furtively – it could be an electronic cigarette type accessory – arrives from quite high and bounces then slides on the tarpaulin which covers the entrance to the corridor, in the colors of the club and with the logo of the OM equipment manufacturer. It is then that the object hits the journalist, in the face.
“I received a projectile in the face. A little shocked by that,” said Ambre Godillon after the match, on the microphone of her channel, marked at eye level.
The club supports Ambre Godillon and is doing everything possible to shed light on this incident
OM condemns this projectile throwing and apologized to the journalist and to DAZN, which said this Saturday, in a press release, “strongly condemn this intolerable and unworthy act”, also promising to “take all measures necessary, particularly judicial, to guarantee the safety of its teams. The channel had to replace the journalist for the half-time interview, while she was treated by nurses present at the stadium.
The match referee had previously waited a few moments before restarting play following Auxerre's third goal. The speaker also appealed to the public, explaining that a new projectile throw could mean the definitive end of the meeting.
Olympique de Marseille provides its full support to Ambre Godillon and is doing everything possible to determine the origin and conditions of the incident. Even if he became convinced, upon seeing the images, that the journalist was probably not directly targeted and that she was accidentally hit by this projectile jet.
