A new “Star Wars” trilogy, unrelated to the Skywalker saga films with Daisy Ridley, is being written by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix).
We already knew, Daisy Ridley will take up the lightsaber for a new Star Wars film called New Jedi Order. The plot of this new film will take place after the fall of the First Order. “The Jedi are in chaos – we don't know how many are left – and Rey is building the New Jedi Order based on the text communicated to her by Luke,” explained Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, during the Star Wars Celebration last April.
Several films with Daisy Ridley
At the end of October, the interpreter of Rey in the previous trilogy declared at the microphone of The Hollywood Reporter: “I have a feeling that these new films will be very interesting. Time has passed and a lot of things have changed for me, personally, so it will be interesting to return to this character that I know well. Playing Rey again after all this time will be both scary and exciting.“The British actress here suggested that there would be not one but several new Star Wars films.
The possible new aspects carried by Daisy Ridley will thus be the direct continuation of the Skywalker saga. But a brand new trilogy including new characters would also be in the works.
Another trilogy with new characters
The Hollywood Reporter we learn today that Simon Kinberg, screenwriter and director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix and 355, has just signed a lucrative contract with LucasFilms to write and produce a new trilogy of films. Kinberg will write the scripts and direct the launch of this new saga, with the aim of proposing a “new path” and creating “new characters” for the science fiction series.
Simon Kinberg is not a complete stranger to the universe created by George Lucas as he co-created the animated series Star Wars: Rebels with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck and served as a consultant for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015 .
We do not know to date whether this new trilogy project will replace that of Rian Johnson (not officially abandoned even if no one seems to believe in it anymore) or if it is a parallel project.
