In the extraordinary plenary session held this Friday the 8th at the Provincial Pazo, the Pontevedra Deputation initially approved the budgets for 2025ascending to a record figure of 209 million euros.
This budget, defended by the Popular Party deputy, Jorge Cubela, represents a increase of 10.5% compared to 2024 and marks the first time that the institution exceeds 200 million euros.
The consolidated budget, which includes the School of Nursing and the Fire Consortium, reaches 214 million.
In his presentation, Cubela highlighted that a third of the resources, 71.4 million euroswill go directly to the councils of the province.
He added that this budget reflects stability, rigor and seriousness on the part of the provincial government.
However, BNG spokesperson, César Mosquerain his initial intervention he criticized the lack of dialogue between the provincial government and the opposition and the prioritization of current spending, which he described as “bread for today and fame for tomorrow.”
He also regretted the absence of investments in waste management and the lack of support for the Feroz Awards gala, which will be held in Pontevedra.
Ana Laura Iglesias, spokesperson for the PSOEalso announced the socialist vote against, pointing out that the budget does not transform the province and criticizing the reduction of aid to councils, women and provincial roads.
He expressed concern about practices that he considers not very participatory and transparent in the management of aid.
In response, Cubela stated that there is a funding commitment with the Feroz Awards and highlighted that They use a citizen listening system recovering aid to neighborhood associations and increasing cultural programs.
He defended that the PP has its own roadmap, learning from past mistakes and respecting municipal autonomy. And he pointed out to the PSOE that “I do not accept lessons in Equality policy” in the face of criticism of the lack of aid, pointing out that various projects are being carried out by this department.
The budgets for 2025 were approved thanks to the absolute majority of the PP, compared to the votes against the PSOE and the BNG.
