It has not been the best season so far for the World Cup winner, especially when comparing his campaign to fellow midfielder Moises Caicedo.
He played just 45 minutes last night, however picked up three assists and ran the show when he was on the pitch as the only natural midfielder named in the starters.
Maresca confirmed there were no issues with Fernandez’s fitness after being replaced at half-time, and the fact he got an early break could point towards him still being high up in the manager’s plans for Premier League games.

It is no coincidence that Chelsea score more goals this season when the Argentine is on the pitch, however there is far more defensive security in the duo of Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
