The women “work for free” from Friday November 8 at 4:48 p.m. Each year, the newsletter The Gloriouspublishes this symbolic date from statistics produced by INSEE on inequality of salary in Francewith the aim of denouncing the salary inequalities that persist between men and women.
According to INSEE, this year, the salary gap between men and women at full-time equivalent is 13,9 %. The pay gap between men and women for equal work and equal skills amounts to 4%.
On the occasion of this day, The Glorious publish a petition to “implement sept measures to sustainably stem wage inequalities between women and men and a study which focuses on countries which have drastically reduced their salary inequalities”, explains the newsletter in a press release.
Solutions to reduce this gap
In his petition, The Glorious claim the following measures: a cequivalent parental leave for both parents as in Sweden, equal pay as an ISO standard as in Iceland, increasing wages in female-dominated sectors like in New Zealand, the application of the principle of equal conditionality. The feminist newsletter also wants to “promote flexible working like in Spain”, “choose a test region like in California” and “always measure more”.
In 2023, the symbolic date was set for November 6 at 11:25 a.m., the full-time equivalent salary gap was 15.4%. In 2022, women worked for free from November 4, 2022 at 9:10 a.m. and in 2021 from November 3, 2021.
