Contactless payment via Pix is ​​becoming a reality in the country. Some financial institutions are already offering the functionality. Despite offering ease, Brazilians must take some care. Here's how to protect yourself.

Payment can be made using smartphones and smartwatches without having to open the bank app. Just bring your watch or cell phone close to the payment machine, just like with a debit and credit card.

When will Pix by contact be available?

The Central Bank's forecast is that financial institutions and all payment machines will make the new functionality available from February 28, 2025.

  • Bank of Brazil: will make the option available within the period stipulated in the regulation.

  • BRADESCO: Will begin testing in January 2025.

  • BV: in the first quarter of 2025.

  • C6: already offers the option to all its customers.

  • CIELO: will implement the function in February 2025.

  • ITAÚ UNIBANCO: throughout November

  • NEON: from February 2025.

  • PICPAY: released this last Monday (4).

  • SANTANDER: from November 14th.

  • Banco Inter and Nubank: will meet the deadline determined by the BC.

  • Box: in 2025, following the BC schedule.

How to protect yourself using Pix by contact?

Specialist Yasmin Nascimento has put together tips to protect yourself when paying with Pix via contactless. Look:

  • Check the machine: before approaching your cell phone, make sure that the machine is in a safe place and that there are no strangers nearby;

  • Protect your cell phone: always keep your cell phone protected with a password or biometrics, preventing unauthorized people from having access to your data;

  • Update your apps: keep your bank's applications always updated to ensure the security of your transactions;

  • Track your statements: regularly check your account statement to identify any suspicious movements.
