On Thursday, November 7, the Belgian vice-champion “Anderlecht” was hosted at the FK RFS Daugava stadium. It will be the fourth game of Latvia’s best football club in the prestigious UEFA European League.
The 27-year-old Danish striker Dolberg could start in the starting line-up of the RFS opponent. In 2017, he was one of Europe the hottest for young footballers. At the age of 19, Dolberg scored 22 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie and UEFA Europa League, helping Ajax Amsterdam win silverware in both competitions. That season he was recognized as the best young footballer in the Netherlands. “The Guardian” called the Dane a prodigy and compared him to the legendary Mark van Basten.
However, Dolberg’s breakout season as a 19-year-old remained his best. After that, he tried his hand in several of Europe’s strongest leagues – in Spain, France and Germany. Since 2023, Dolberg has been playing for the Belgian team “Anderlecht”. He scored 24 goals in these 60 games.
Although Dolberg did not manage to become a solid striker in a top league team, his talent has not completely disappeared. The Dane scores some truly incredible goals every now and then, reminding us why he was once compared to one of the best strikers in football of all time.
On October 6, Dolberg scored one of the most beautiful goals of 2024. With impressive trickery, he outplayed the opponent and beat the “Standard Liege” goalkeeper from a great distance.
