The government is preparing to approve the new population of Morocco, following the completion of the population and housing census in the Kingdom for the year 2024, which reached a total of 36 million 828 thousand and 330 people, including more than 148 thousand foreigners residing in the country.
The Secretary-General of the Government, Mohamed Hajjawi, transmitted to the members of the government a copy of a draft decree approving the numbers specifying the population, a copy of which is available to Al-Aqma, in preparation for presenting it to the Government Council.
The draft decree prepared by the Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, aims to ratify the numbers specifying the legal population of the Kingdom, by determining the number of population at the level of the total national territory, as well as at the level of regions, prefectures, regions and communities.
According to the project’s introductory note, this step comes within the framework of completing the final stage completed by the entitlement to complete the population and housing census in the Kingdom for the year 2024, which is to inventory and determine the final results of the census process conducted last September for the aforementioned census.
According to the general results of the census process, the legal population in the Kingdom on September 1st of the current year amounts to a total of 36,828,330 people, thus defining the population of the Kingdom since the General Population and Housing Census of 2014, an increase of 2,980,088 people, or a percentage of 48.80. %.
Regarding the total number of families that resulted from the census process, the draft decree indicated that it amounts to 9,275,038 families, and this number in turn recorded a significant increase of 1,961,232 families, i.e. a rate equivalent to 26.82, compared to the number of families that was counted in the year 2014.
Regarding the number of foreigners residing in the Kingdom, the same source revealed that their total number is 148,152 people, recording an increase of 61,946 people, or an estimated rate of 71.86% compared to the number of foreigners specified according to the 2014 census.
According to the introductory note, the High Commission for Planning, after approving the aforementioned draft decree and publishing it in the Official Gazette of the Kingdom, will circulate the detailed results of the census and publish all data related to it in accordance with what is being done in this section.
