This week, “Aktenzeichen XY” shows a cold case from near Hanover. The skeleton of an unknown woman wearing a colorful T-shirt was found there more than 30 years ago.
The ZDF search program “Aktenzeichen , 8:15 p.m.) presenter Rudi Cerne presents a cold case from Lower Saxony.
The crime happened more than three decades ago: It was August 20, 1994, when two students were on a Bundeswehr campus in Hanover and made a terrible discovery: They saw a corpse in a deep hole in the ground. It is a woman and the dead woman is already skeletonized, as “Aktenzeichen XY” wrote in a press release before the program was broadcast.
The woman’s skeleton is being examined forensically, it is said. It turned out that the woman was killed at least two years before her skeleton was discovered.
Unknown female corpse: “File number XY” hopes for a tip from the audience
To this day it is completely unclear who the woman was. The investigators hope that the ZDF broadcast will provide information from viewers.
The dead woman from Hanover is part of the international search campaign “Identify Me”, with which Interpol is trying to identify a total of 46 bodies across Europe, all of them women. “Most of these female victims were either murdered or died under dubious or unclear circumstances,” says the “XY” press release.
The Europe-wide search campaign has already been successful: last year, a dead woman was identified by her tattoo after more than 30 years. It was a British woman who was found dead in Belgium in the early 1990s.
In the case from Hanover, the investigators also present an object that relatives or acquaintances of the dead may remember: It is a turquoise shirt with the inscription “Little Italy – New York City.” What is also striking about the woman is that she had very bad, partly rotten teeth, which were restored cosmetically, as the description of the case states.

The specific location where the body was found was the Bundeswehr area “Bothfelder Heide”, according to the police department in Hanover. The police estimate that the dead woman was a petite woman with a clothing size of 36 to 38 who was probably between 30 and 55 years old when she died, i.e. she was born between 1934 and 1957. Her hair color is given as reddish-brown.
