Trump’s harshest critic, John Bolton, backs former president

One of Donald Trump’s harshest critics from the Republican party has backed the former president to win the US election.

John Bolton, who served briefly as national security adviser in the former Trump administration, told Today this morning he believed Trump had closed the gap on Democrat opponent Kamala Harris.

“If I had to bet a dollar on somebody, I would bet that Trump wins. I think he did close the gap.”

“Polls have been wrong on him before, understating the Trump vote. That happened in 2016. It happened in 2020. Maybe it’ll happen again.”

In his book released earlier this year, Bolton described Trump as unfit to be president.

For the record, Bolton told Today he won’t be voting for either Trump or Harris.
