On vacation on Reunion Island, a Belgian police officer rescued a 4-year-old girl who had just drowned in her hotel swimming pool. Thanks to his first aid actions, the little girl was resuscitated and transported to hospital, out of danger.
This Wednesday late morning, a 4-year-old girl escaped the supervision of her parents and found herself in difficulty in the swimming pool of the Villa Delisle hotel, in Saint-Pierre, in Reunion.
According to local media, the child, who was playing at the water’s edge, dove to retrieve an object that had fallen into the pool, and she began to drown.
A Liège police officer intervenes and resuscitates the child
A 37-year-old Belgian police officer, Mickey Merola, on vacation in the establishment, witnessed the scene. Without hesitation, he intervened and provided cardiac massage and the first aid necessary to resuscitate the little girl.
Emergency services, quickly arriving on site, took care of the child and transported her to the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Saint-Pierre. According to the information collected, the little girl is now out of danger, and her vital prognosis is not in jeopardy.
