In 1975, Milan and Vera Kundera left Czechoslovakia for France and settled in Rennes where Milan Kundera (The joke, Life is elsewhere, The unbearable lightness of being…) becomes a teacher of cinema and literature at Rennes 2 University.
Rennes 2 University pays tribute to this major figure in contemporary literature who died on July 11, 2023. Various events take place on the Villejean campus around literary research, cinema and the visual arts, through meetings, conferences, a day of studies, an exhibition of drawings, a musical performance and a screening.
“Modernist approach”
Milan Kundera's first drawing was made in Rennes, “a man who took out his eye to look into the distance or to look at himself. A simple line, perhaps reminiscent of Picasso's drawings. A simplicity that is part of Milan Kundera's modernist approach to the world.” writes Tomáš Kubícek, director of the Moravian Library in Brno.
Several drawings are exhibited, as well as photos. A study day will take place on Thursday, November 21.
Amphi B3 will be named Milan Kundera.
Juntil December 13, 2024, at Rennes 2 University, presidency building, Villejean metro station. The full program of the tribute on https://nouvelles.univ-rennes2.fr/event/hommage-milan-kundera
