Manchester United fans are making the same joke after seeing an exchange between Ruben Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres after Sporting Lisbon’s 4-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League.
Gyokeres netted a stunning hat-trick in the victory, taking his seasonal tally up to 23 goals in all competitions.
The Sweden international made it seven goals in the space of just four days after smashing in four goals during Sporting’s 5-1 win over Estrela on Friday evening.
After that match, United fans were calling on Amorim – who will take charge at Old Trafford on November 11 – to bring Gyokeres with him to Manchester.
Those calls grew even louder after the incredible comeback win over City, which saw Sporting go 1-0 down through Phil Foden’s goal before launching a stunning comeback.
Gyokeres and Amorim had a brief exchange on the pitch at the Estadio Jose Alvalade at full-time.
And although what they were saying was obscured, United fans all made the same joke upon seeing the viral footage.
One wrote: “Gyokeres: ‘I want to follow you to United’. Amorim: ‘Don’t worry I’m signing you’.”
Another said: “Amorim said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ve got this’.”
A third added: “‘Bring me there!’ ‘Let’s try next summer’.”
But speaking to Portuguese media after the match, Amorim appeared to rule out a move to Old Trafford for Gyokeres this season – although a future move away from Sporting may not be out of the question.
He explained: “It was tough for me to leave. If I start joking about that with Gyokeres, I’ll have problems. This is my city, this my country, so I will respect.
“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life is going some… maybe, somewhere else.
“I’ve just made peace with Sporting fans,” he said in another interview. “I’m not even going to make a joke about it [Gyokeres].
“Gyokeres is a Sporting player, which is a great club, he did a lot for it. He was in the second division [of English football, with Coventry]. He just has to stay and finish the season in Marques.”
