Sanctioned following a health inspection revealing dysfunctions in terms of hygiene and safety, the Durieux clinic regrets a brutal decision and assures that it can “provide answers.”

Already called to order at the start of the year, the Durieux du Tampon clinic is once again in the sights of the health authorities. Following a new control visit, the private health establishment has been carrying out since Tuesday, November 5 subject to a temporary suspension of its surgical and endoscopy activities due to “numerous shortcomings” in the management of health risks and in controlling the quality of care.

A firm decision from the regional health agency (ARS), poorly received by the staff of the tampon clinic.

“If there were to be a danger for patients as we suggest, there would not be so many of them coming to us every day, between 70 and 80 patients”argues Didier Morel, staff delegate representing the UR974 union.

Who wants to reassure patients: “Another point not highlighted by the ARS and which is important to point out: these bacteriological samples which are taken regularly in the operating room demonstrate the quality of the work provided”he assures.

Same outcry from the management of the establishment, which mainly mentions procedural and organizational questions, and regrets not having been able to defend itself before receiving the sanction.

“We already have answers to the questions”

Antoine Boyer, spokesperson for the Durieux clinic

“And for the other points we are also able to provide answers”defends Antoine Boyer, spokesperson for the Durieux clinic.

“What we regret is that the ARS took immediate action, without giving us the opportunity to argue in adversarial proceedings, on which we are convinced that we could have responded point by point to all of the requests made by the ARS”adds the representative of the establishment.

But this is not the first time that the southern clinic has found itself in the crosshairs of health authorities. In February 2024, following an inspection of the clinic and its hemodialysis center carried out in September 2023, the High Authority for Health (HAS) blacklisted the establishment, issuing a decision of non-certification to its against.

At the time, were noted “significant deviations from the imperative criteria of drug safety, compliance with hygiene measures and implementation of a quality and safety approach to care.”

However, the shortcomings noted were not of a nature “to call into question the safety of care”then specified the health authority. Which no longer seems to be the case today, with this measure of effective suspension of the activity of surgery and endoscopy services.

The clinic now has eight days to comply. In the meantime, all operations are either postponed or transferred to other establishments in the department.
