Donald Trump wins North Carolina, the first key state.
By winning North Carolina, Republican candidate Donald Trump won in a first key state, or “swing state”, according to Associated Press projections, based on 90% of the ballots counted.
This state is one of the undecided states that can determine the outcome of the presidential election. A victory in North Carolina allows Donald Trump to count on the support of 16 voters out of the 270 needed to reach the White House. At this stage he has 230 voters in his favor compared to 187 for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
Iowa and Kansas also in favor of Trump: the Republican strongholds of Iowa and Kansas (center) will remain in favor of Donald Trump in the race for the presidency of the United States, the main American media announced in their projections.

Donald Trump on track in key states
The results of the American presidential election are trickling in, as projections from the main American media reveal throughout the night, state by state, which should be in favor of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris or her Republican opponent Donald Trump . However, no projection has yet been proposed concerning the key states, the “swing states”, which can tilt the electoral result one way or the other. The provisional count confirms close results between the two candidates for the White House, but with a slight advantage for Donald Trump.
Here are the preliminary results, state by state:
- Georgia (16 electors): After the counting of nearly 90% of the votes, Donald Trump, with nearly 51% of the vote, has a lead of nearly 140,000 votes over Kamala Harris, at nearly 48.2%.
- North Carolina (16): Donald Trump's advantage in this state is around 130,000 votes with nearly 15% of the votes remaining to be counted. The Republican has around 50.7% of the vote, compared to 48.1% for his rival.
- Pennsylvania (19): The count of 66% of the votes shows an advantage of 110,000 votes for the Republican candidate, who leads the score with 50.7% while the Democrat is reported at 48.3%.
- Virginia (13): The vice-president provisionally leads by around 52,000 votes over the former resident of the White House and is at almost 50%, against 48.4% for the Republican. There are still almost a quarter of the votes to be counted.
- Arizona (11): The fight is close in this state: with half the votes counted, Donald Trump leads by only 3,000 votes against Kamala Harris. The two candidates obtained around 49.6%.
- Michigan (15): The Republican candidate is in the lead with more than 80,000 votes ahead of his Democratic rival, but there are still more than 70% of the votes to be counted. The former president provisionally has 51.7% of the votes against 46.5% for the vice-president.
- Wisconsin (10): After the counting of more than 60% of the votes, there is only nearly 55,000 votes difference between Donald Trump (50.6%), slightly in the lead, and Kamala Harris (47.8%).

Trump exceeds 100 voters thanks to Texas, Harris gets closer with New York
Around fifteen American states saw their polling stations close on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time of the United States (Wednesday at 3:00 a.m. Belgian time) for the American presidential election. According to the main American media, Texas, the two Dakotas and Wyoming will be in favor of Donald Trump, while the state of New York is choosing Kamala Harris.
According to the Associated Press, Louisiana and Ohio are also expected to turn red for Donald Trump. Two districts in Nebraska are also announced for Republicans. No media, however, projects a victory for one or the other candidate in the key states, the “swing states” thanks to which the election can swing from one camp to the other.
According to the latest provisional counts, Donald Trump has between 137 and 178 electors, compared to a total of 99 to 113 for Kamala Harris. It takes 270 to win the US presidential election.
