Excitement, chaos and private drama – that’s what Jürgen Vogel promises in the RUHR24 interview for the fourth season of the ZDF crime thriller “Beyond the Spree”.

Dortmund – In the new season of “Beyond the Spree,” fans can expect not only the exciting investigation of eight criminal cases, but also major changes in the life of investigator Robert Heffler, played by Jürgen Vogel (56). Robert’s ex-wife Tanja brings the life of a single father. Since her mother left the family for her career, she has hardly played a role – a circumstance that presents Heffler with unexpected challenges, as Jürgen Vogel explains in the RUHR24 interview.

“Beyond the Spree” on ZDF: Robert’s ex-wife causes chaos in the new season

Jürgen Vogel has been there since the beginning of the popular ZDF crime series and plays Inspector Robert Heffler. Like the other actors, Vogel himself has a lot of say. “It was clear from the start that I could also develop my figure. That was also my wish from the beginning. The producers and the editorial team were very open, which is very important to me personally,” he adds.

In addition to his role on ZDF, Vogel can also recently be seen on ARD. In the RUHR24 interview he reveals that the twist in the new season of “Beyond the Spree” has a personal touch. “It was clear from the start that she would have to appear at some point, after all, she is the mother of Robert’s children,” he explains. The tension and at the same time the humor of this encounter is exactly what fascinates him about the series.

Jürgen Vogel about his ex-wife in “Beyond the Spree”: “The situation is just so absurd”

“The moment of her appearance is really great. That was my idea too, I have to say, and I’m proud of it. The situation is just so absurd, and I love the combination of tragedy and comedy,” Vogel continued. This return of the ex not only brings unrest into Robert’s everyday life, but also gives the series new depth that should delight many fans.

Vogel deals intensively with the modern, realistic portrayal of the characters. He does not condemn Robert’s ex-wife’s decision to leave the family for her professional goals – on the contrary. He sees this choice as an important, modern facet of the series: “I really like that she just had her career in mind and wanted to achieve something special. Just being a mother wasn’t enough for her, and I think that’s kind of legitimate.”

“Beyond the Spree” on ZDF: Jürgen Vogel explains “what makes our series special”

The further development of Mavi, Heffler’s colleague, also plays a crucial role in this season. As Vogel explains, it’s not just about the crime plot, but also about showing the depth of the characters and addressing social issues that are often not explored in such detail in many crime series.

“In addition to the crime plot, family plays a central role. Unlike many 60-minute crime dramas, we continue storylines, including private ones, which makes our series special,” Vogel explains to RUHR24.

For many viewers, it is precisely this aspect that is special about “Beyond the Spree”: the connection between criminal cases and the personal challenges of the characters. The series shows how Robert and Mavi try to balance their professional and private lives – a situation that many people will be familiar with in real life (read more TV news at RUHR24).

4th season of “Beyond the Spree” on ZDF: TV date and media library

“Many people I meet say how much they enjoy the family stories. “You also see Mavi and Robert privately – their problems and the balancing act between work and family,” adds Vogel. The eighth episode, entitled “Dunkelfeld”, is said to be particularly tough. The reason for this is, among other things, the crossover with the series “The Boss”.

From then on 15. November 2024 ZDF broadcasts the new episodes every Friday at 8:15 p.m. Anyone who can hardly wait has the opportunity to see the first episode of the fourth season a week earlier in the ZDF media library from November 8th.
