She is known to be the last companion of Serge Gainsbourg. Indeed, Caroline Elisabeth Paulus, nicknamed Bambou, shared her life with the singer in the 1980s. More than 30 years after his death, she is preparing to release an autobiography entitled Step by step in the night (Ed. XO).
Very discreet, Bambou has decided to come out of the shadows for the first time. In her work, she mentions his difficult childhoodhis suicide attempts, his meeting with Serge Gainsbourg or even the birth of their son Lucien. On Tuesday, November 5, she was the guest of Léa Salamé on the France Inter morning show.
Bambou talks about his meeting with Serge Gainsbourg
After several years away from the spotlight, Bambou appeared on the France Inter set. Faced with Léa Salamé, the one who almost not changed revealed that she had long admired Serge Gainsbourg. “I was sure that if he met me, he would understand that I was unhappy and I was convinced of it” she remembered.
In 1980, the young model finally met him in
a night club. While the singer “ordered” for her to go to her table, she refuses. “I return to my table and Serge arrives with his bucket of champagne and his bottle. He puts the bucket on my table and says to me: 'The old bastard is coming to your table, you sausage.' And then I burst out laughing and it was gone” she recounted with nostalgia.
The former model has remained close to the Gainsbourg clan
Despite the iconic couple formed by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Bambou has never been jealous of the actress. She explained about this: “I accepted immediately that he had had a life before me and that it was normal to respect, it was the least I could do.”.
Over the years, Lulu's mother will tie a very strong relationship with the Gainsbourg clan. Shortly before
the death of Jane Birkinshe was also able to spend time with her. “The last time she went to the hospital, I went to see her, I brought her food. We spent our last New Year together” she recalled. A link which is also important with Charlotte Gainsbourgwhich she considers her “little sister”. Enough to show that the singer's family has remained united.
