WE START WITH FIRST WARNING METEOROLOGIST SANDRA SHAW. ALL RIGHT. AND WE START WITH TROPICAL STORM RAFAEL. THE TROPICS JUST NOT ENDING THIS YEAR. SO RAFAEL LOCATED SOUTH OF KINGSTON, JAMAICA, MUCH CLOSER THAN YESTERDAY. IT’S GOT 60 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. NOW YOU CAN SEE IT’S SPINNING HERE. AND LOTS OF CONVECTION JUST SWEEPING AROUND IT. IT IS EXPECTED TO HIT CUBA TOMORROW AT ABOUT 1:00 AS A CATEGORY ONE HURRICANE. IT’S GOING TO HIT THE WESTERN TIP OF CUBA. CONTINUE TO MOVE ON INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO. AND SO WE’RE GOING TO GET SOME WRAP AROUND MOISTURE. TROPICAL DOWNPOURS WITH IMPACT WEATHER AGAIN TOMORROW. VERY GUSTY WINDS BECAUSE OF THIS, EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT DIRECTLY OVER US, IT CONTINUES INTO THE GULF AS A CATEGORY ONE, THEN LOSES A LITTLE INTENSITY AS IT APPROACHES THE SECOND LANDFALL, THIS TIME OVER THE US. ANYWHERE FROM HOUSTON TO IT LOOKS LIKE ALL THE WAY FROM NEW ORLEANS TO MAYBE EVEN MOBILE, ALABAMA. SO SOMETHING WE’RE GOING TO BE TRACKING AS WE GET INTO THE WEEK’S END. AND THEN THERE’S ANOTHER AREA OF INTEREST THAT WILL GIVE US SOME IMPACT WEATHER FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEKEND. IT IS NEAR THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AS FAR AS FIRST WARNING RADAR GOES THIS MORNING WE HAVE A COUPLE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS OFFSHORE. WE SAW A FEW NEAR BOCA WHEN I CAME IN AT ABOUT THREE, BUT REALLY THE TAKEAWAY TODAY, THE WINDS WIND ADVISORY UP UNTIL 1 A.M. TOMORROW. WE HAVE A 33 MILE AN HOUR GUST. WE JUST RECORDED. GUSTS ARE GOING TO BE IN EXCESS OF 30 ALL DAY LONG. SO YOUR ELECTION DAY PLANNER LOOKS OKAY FOR THE START OF THE DAY. MAYBE A FEW SHOWERS AT ABOUT SEVEN AND THEN MORE IMPACT WITH THOSE WINDS REALLY PICKING UP THIS AFTERNOON AND WE’RE ALSO
South Florida will see tropical moisture move in today in the form of scattered downpours, especially this afternoon, and high winds. A Wind Advisory is up until 1 a.m. Wednesday. Highs will hit the lower to mid-80s. The impact weather will continue through Thursday with the indirect tropical influence. Tropical Storm Rafael is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before making landfall on Cuba’s western side on Wednesday afternoon. A Tropical Storm Watch is up for the middle and lower Keys.
