CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – After months of campaigning, Election Day is just hours away. With it could come some showers across the Carolinas.
Any precipitation that does develop Tuesday is likely to be scattered in nature, but could pop up and wet some areas.
“I think most of the rain is going to be concentrated west of I-77 because that’s where the highest elevations are,” WBTV chief meteorologist Al Conklin said Monday morning. “Tomorrow, Election Day, will likely have a little better rain chance around. Primarily in the morning and midday, but I couldn’t rule it out even going into the afternoon.”
Despite the potential for rain Tuesday, the chances still are not great, and will increase closer to midweek. As of a Monday morning update, there was only about a 30% chance of rain on Election Day.
“Just keep in mind if you’re going to be waiting in line at all tomorrow, there’s a possibility you could have some showers early in the morning and maybe still a couple around even during the afternoon,” the longtime meteorologist said. “And then we should see drier conditions hopefully develop by late afternoon with highs getting into the mid-70s.”

Aside from Monday, temperatures will be back above average for the rest of the workweek with highs ranging from the mid to upper 70s. The average high for this time of year is about 68 degrees.
The best chance for rain will come Wednesday and Thursday.
