On the occasion of the start of the Vendée Globe, 100% Sport goes behind the scenes of this legendary race, with Arthur Petrucci, a Périgord navigator who worked on the installation of ropes on certain ships.
Going around the world in 80 days is the crazy challenge of Phileas Fogg, the character from Jules Verne's imagination. Well now it's commonplace, especially for Vendée Globe skippers. This Sunday, 40 skippers, women and men, will set off from Les Sables d'Olonnes to complete a world tour, aboard IMOCAS, Formula 1 of the seas.
To get an inside look behind the scenes of this race, Arthur Petrucci, sailor from Riberac is the guest of 100% Sport. He had completed a crossing of the Atlantic in 2023 and, to earn his living, he participated in the design of certain Vendée Globe boatsnotably that of Jean Le Cam. A specialist in ropes and masts, he will follow the race from Martinique.
“This race will be legendary because we are reaching the most extreme point of technology deployed on boats”explains Arthur Petrucci. He also returned to the relationships he had with the skippers, including “King Jean Le Cam”. “He is a perfectionist and wants to know everything about the strings we install. And then his stories, his adventures, we just want to listen to him”relates the Périgourdin.
