The closure order has been posted for two months at the Barbezieux reception area. The Joint Syndicate for the Reception of Travelers in Charente (SMAGVC) which manages the structure on behalf of the CdC des 4B, has alerted users of this location: the area is completely closed from November 4 to March 4 for four months of work.

“We have planned major rehabilitation work,” confirms Luc Chabraud, director of SMAGVC. Opened around thirty years ago, the Barbezieux area is one of the oldest in Charente. The project will focus on the eight toilet blocks with an emphasis on accessibility. “A 180,000 euro project which is financed by the CdC des 4B and the SMAGVC but also thanks to the provision of funds from the State recovery plan,” explains the director.

The first site meeting is to be held this Tuesday, November 5. Problem, mediation with the occupants of the area to leave the premises was unsuccessful. The seven families present refuse to leave. “We agree that the work should be done, except that our children go to school in Barbezieux and we have not been offered another location in the town. » Spokesperson for the families, Sophie Feltin also fears for the health of her eldest who suffers from a serious illness and is monitored on a daily basis by nurses in the sector. “We tried to find a solution but none of our proposals suited them,” regrets Jacques Chabot, president of 4B. A platform adjoining the reception area equipped with mobile toilets was to accommodate the caravans. The envelope of 80,000 euros for this temporary solution set the community back. A move to the Châteauneuf reception area was rejected by the families “because it was not practical in winter”, maintains Sophie Feltin. Not convinced, either, by the provision of a shuttle to transport the children to Barbezieux. “We don’t have any serviced land,” repeats Jacques Chabot. “We are at an impasse, and any delay will further delay the work. »
