VIDEO – Roads were submerged following heavy rains in this city of 130,000 inhabitants in northeastern Spain.

Catalonia is not spared. After the deadly rains which hit the Valencia region, downpours caused flooding in Tarragona, in the north-east of Spain, on Monday November 4. The Catalan provinces of Tarragona and Castellón were placed on orange alert until mid-morning.

According to the Spanish media The Sixththe inhabitants of Tarragona would have received an alert encouraging them to get out of danger. “We received an alert to go to higher ground. We can't, but we'll go down the stairs», Says Edgardo, a resident of this city of 130,000 inhabitants, interviewed by the television channel.

The regions most affected by bad weather are located further south. At least 217 people died in these floods, 213 in the Valencia region alone. There, the red alert launched late Sunday afternoon was downgraded to orange category shortly after 9 p.m. The Valencia town hall still decided to close classes on Monday.
