Christian Horner hailed Max Verstappen’s impressive performance in Brazil, after the Red Bull driver started from 16th to win. The team boss was full of praise for his driver.
“It was a masterful lesson and I think that in these conditions, the talent of the driver really comes to the fore. Max was in a category of his own” said the head of Red Bull Racing.
“As a team we made all the right decisions and the car had great pace. Outstanding driving. With qualifying finishing in 17th place it felt like everything was against us, but he overturned the situation.”
Horner does not hide being amazed by Verstappen: “Max has an inestimable talent. It’s impossible to put a value on that. It was the driving of a champion. There are great drivers, but to stand out and shine like that, that sets him apart, I think , of today’s great pilots.”
“In the way he drove, and even when we had a difficult car this year, he never gave up. After his winning streak, he started his points harvest by always trying to get the most out of the car and finally he returns to the most beautiful trophy on the podium.
With a 62-point lead, Verstappen will be able to validate the title in Las Vegas: “It’s a big day for him in the drivers’ championship. I didn’t expect him to win, I thought if we could get close to the podium it would be an incredible result.”
“So, for him to have won this race, it was exceptional, absolutely. He was patient, he attacked when he had to, and on his restart, he was impeccable on Ocon. He came back from very far behind Truly, an exceptional race.”
Despite only one point in the race and the Sprint, Sergio Pérez receives encouragement from Horner: “Checo also had a stronger weekend, and had some moments of bad luck during the race. It wasn’t the expected result but in terms of pace he was much more in the mix in Brazil than at home in Mexico.”
The Briton does not yet want to give up his hope of the constructors’ title: “Yes! The team has shown in the past that we never give up, this is evident both on the track and with the whole team in Milton Keynes. What a superb result for the team, and we will keep this momentum with us for the last triple header of the season.”
