It is on the stages of the Théâtre Marigny that we can find Bérénice Bejo. She will perform in the play People from Bilbao are born wherever they wantonly one on stage which will be represented until December 22. For the occasion, she gave an interview to The Sunday Tribune this November 3 in which she talks about her finances. The wife of director Michel Hazanavicius hides nothing: “I pay for my loans with work, like for our house in the country”. She therefore reveals that it is only thanks to her roles in cinema and theater that she earns money. “When I did The ArtistI was actually asked to belong to a major brand. Yes, I know, the word is strong, but it's the first that comes to me! I had just filmed in a super original, silent, black and white film… Why would I have gone into that? I missed out on a lot of money, no doubt”she explains without tongue in cheek.
She does not regret this choice at all. It's a question of ethics for the mother. “I couldn’t see myself on billboards. I struggle with the loss of anonymity”she confides. Furthermore, she also believes that this refusal would have caused her to miss out on several opportunities with magazines: “This is also the reason why they don’t put me on the cover of magazines. Because I don't have a brand behind me. It took me a long time to understand. Moreover, I don't have any social media accounts. There are sometimes brands that want to dress me and don't do it, because I wouldn't be able to repost anything. But I still manage with creators that I adore”.
