More than 75 million Americans have already voted: what do the latest polls say?

More than 75 million Americans have already voted, early or by mail, for the American presidential election which takes place on November 5. The vote is a close call between Democrat Kamala Harris, vice-president, and Republican Donald Trump, former former president.

Kamala Harris announced Sunday that more than 78 million Americans have already voted, early or by mail.

These votes are closely observed in the pivotal states, where the undecided can tip the scales for one or the other candidate.

In North Carolina, nearly 4.5 million voters have already returned their ballots. In Georgia, four million voted early and in Pennsylvania, 1.7 million postal votes were received, according to counts from the New York Times.

In nine states, more than half of voters have already voted.

Projections of these early votes already suggest that participation in the vote could be around 60%, according to political scientist Michael McDonald, of the University of Florida, cited by this American media.

The latest New York Times/Siena poll, focused on the seven crucial states, shows differences too small to allow the slightest conclusion in favor of one or the other candidate.

Former Republican President Donald Trump has already laid the groundwork for a challenge in the event of defeat, while Kamala Harris repeats that the electoral systems in place are reliable.

On Tuesday, when the polling stations in the world’s leading power close, a period of feverish waiting will begin. No one knows whether it will take hours or days for the American media, whose prerogative it is traditionally, to attribute victory to one or the other.
