Wouter Vrancken is in a difficult position at KAA Gent. Some fans even want the coach fired.
Ghent did not get further than a spectacular score on the red lantern field and the fans who traveled along expressed their dissatisfaction. Among other things, “Vrancken outside” was chanted. The recent figures of his team are nothing to write home about: Ghent must be able to do better than a 3 out of 12. On the other hand, it is also quick that Vrancken is under fire like this.
“It’s something new,” Vrancken remains down-to-earth under the intense criticism directed at him. “The supporters can shout that. They are also frustrated by the match we played. We have already received a message that they are distancing themselves from a few in the supporter group,” Vrancken showed that certainly not everyone wants his C4.
Ghent supporters divided over Vrancken
That message is also correct, although Wouter Vrancken formulates it in a way that is not entirely consistent with the truth. After the match, a well-known figure from the Ghent supporters informed the club’s press officer that not all the supporters who traveled along supported the chants.
Vrancken can also count on the support of Dirk Kuyt, his colleague at Beerschot. “This coach is simply a very good coach,” says the Dutchman about KAA Gent’s T1. It is important for Vrancken that he can quickly get Ghent out of the doldrums. We are therefore looking forward to seeing what the fans’ reaction will be at subsequent matches.
Vrancken is bothered by two things
Vrancken himself was particularly bothered by the lack of initiative and the unnecessary giving away of counters. “Those two main things make you have a bad match. It just wasn’t good enough.”
