Jamey-Lyn Horth defeats Ivana Petrović by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)

Ivana Petrović and Jamey-Lyn Horth kicked off the evening’s action in Edmonton with a competitive back-and-forth scrap in the flyweight division.

Petrović got the better of things in the opening round, controlling things in the clinch and on the ground, closing out the frame landing short elbows from top position. Horth had more success in the opening half of the second, attacking an armbar before the two got a little more loose with their hands in the back half of the round.

The third was give-and-take, with each woman having moments of success on the feet as they battled through to the final horn.

The judges were called upon to determine the victor, and when the scores were tallied, it was Horth that came out on the happy side of the split decision verdict. After nearly a year on the sidelines, it’s a nice bounce-back victory for the fighter from Squamish, British Columbia, and a positive start for the Canadian contingent on today’s card. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Cody Gibson defeats Chad Anheliger by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Cody Gibson big brothered Chad Anheliger in their bantamweight matchup early in the evening, dominating the action on the canvas throughout on route to collecting his second straight UFC victory.

“The Renegade” was a step ahead of the Canadian at every turn, beating Anheliger to the next position out of every scramble, dragging him back to the canvas when he managed to work back to his feet, and attacking with both strikes and submission attempts throughout.

Anhelgier had early success on the feet to start the third, but Gibson was able to quickly deposit him back on the canvas, staying sticky to him for the remainder of the round to finish grinding out the victory.

All three judges saw it for Gibson, who has now earned consecutive wins to draw level at 2-2 during what is his second stint on the UFC roster. The 37-year-old California native moved to 21-10 with the win, while Anheliger fell to 13-8 with the loss. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Serhiy Sidey defeats Garrett Armfield by split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28)

Serhiy Sidey collected the first UFC victory of his career on Saturday, out-gunning Garrett Armfield in an entertaining tussle between two all-action bantamweights.

The Burlington, Ontario native was just a shade ahead of Armfield in each of the first two rounds, landing the heavier, more telling blows while also threatening with a D’Arce choke in the opening stanza.

Armfield turned to his grappling in the third, taking Sidey to the canvas a couple times, but the Canadian threatened with chokes, worked for reversals and to create scrambles and generally did well to avoid any real punishment.

The judges were once again called upon to determine the outcome, with the first-year UFC fighter landing on the happy side of the split decision verdict. After an entertaining scrap in Toronto at the start of the year, the 28-year-old is starting to establish himself as a must-see action fighter in the 135-pound weight class. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Alexandr Romanov defeats Rodrigo Nascimento by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Heavyweights Alexandr Romanov and Rodrigo Nascimento continued the parade of fights going the distance, pairing off in a battle of ranked fighters that had moments of action and periods where each man was clearly catching their breath.

Romanov dominated the first with his grappling, taking Nascimento to the canvas on a couple different occasions, looking for submissions and landing short bursts of effective offense.

The second and third were fought almost exclusively on the feet, with each man trying to find clean shots as their energy reserves waned. Unfortunately, the most memorable blow of the bout was the thudding kick Birth landed below the belt.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Romanov, who returned to the win column after falling to Jailton Almeida in his first appearance of 2024 at UFC 302 in June. The 33-year-old is now 7-3 inside the Octagon and 18-3 overall for his career. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Youssef Zalal defeats Jack Shore by submission (arm-triangle choke) at 0:59 of Round 2

Youssef Zalal registered the first finish of the evening in Edmonton, submitting Jack Shore after dropping the Welshman with a perfectly timed step-in knee.

Following a competitive first round where each man had moments of success in the clinch and grappling realms, the two opened the second trading on the feet, where Zalal planted a right knee on the chin of Shore that sent him falling backwards to the canvas. The Factory X man quickly followed and clamped onto the fight-ending choke, drawing out the tap from Shore.

That’s now three wins, all by submission, in nine months since returning to the promotion on short notice earlier this year. Zalal always showed promise, but he’s clearly putting things together well right now, and looks like a dark horse contender in the 145-pound weight class. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Charles Jourdain defeats Victor Henry by submission (guillotine choke) at 3:43 of Round 2

Charles Jourdain turned in an impressive showing in his bantamweight debut, submitting Victor Henry in the second round.

The French-Canadian looked sharp from the outset, landing the better strikes as the two worked on the feet and doing well when they clinched along the fence.

Henry looked to grapple in the second, taking Jourdain’s back, but the Montreal native defended well and was always looking for opening to attack. After searching for the choke earlier in the frame, he was able to latch onto the palm-to-palm variant and quickly force Henry to tap.

The 28-year-old snapped a two-fight slide with the win while announcing his presence as an exciting new addition to the 135-pound weight class. Hyper-athletic and aggressive, “Air” Jourdain should be fun to watch in his new surroundings going forward. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard

Aiemann Zahabi defeats Pedro Munhoz by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Make it five straight for Aiemann Zahabi, as the Tristar product picked up the biggest win of his career to close out the prelims, getting the better of Brazilian veteran Pedro Munhoz on the scorecards.

Efficiency was the name of the game for Zahabi, as he was judicious with his shots, but connected at a high clip, countering well and lumping up the durable and determined To Mun.

Operating behind a high guard, the French-Canadian did well to avoid too much punishment, circling out and resetting before finding little openings he could exploit.

All three judges scored the fight in favor of Zahabi, giving the 36-year-old his second win of 2024 and fifth straight dating back to early 2021. This was another smart, tactical effort like his win over Javid Basharat earlier in the year, and another quality step in the right direction for the Canadian. | Main Card Results | Official Scorecard
