Trailing in their lair at the break, the Rochelais ended up taking off thanks to a renewed energy in the second period. A success (35-18) which took time to emerge against an opportunistic Stade Français and carried by an impeccable Louis Carbonel against the poles. Stade Rochelais therefore remains undefeated in its den.
The first minutes of the match alone would sum up the first period. Stade Français took advantage of an error from La Rochelle to open the scoring thanks to Carbonel at the foot. The Parisian scorer doubled the score a few minutes later to allow his team to quickly lead 6-0.
The Rochelais tried to respond and also took advantage of a penalty to get back to 3 points thanks to West. But the Maritime was going to be less precise than its direct opponent. Despite a good try scored by Teddy Thomas in the closed after 30 minutes of play, the Soldats Rose were still in front thanks to penalties. At the end of the first period, Paris led 15-11 thanks to a 5/5 at the foot of Louis Carbonel.
The maritime reaction
Trailing at the break, La Rochelle started this second half with much better intentions. In less than five minutes, the Maritimes scored a second try thanks to Latu. In strength, the La Rochelle forwards allowed their supporters to smile again. Carbonel brought the two teams level thanks to his kicking game (18-18).
But in the last 20 minutes, La Rochelle would pick up the pace. Jégou scored a try from a few millimeters to give his team some breathing space. The Maritimes held their offensive bonus point and led 28-18 at this point in the game. Less than ten minutes from the end, the locals scored a fourth and final try through Skelton, launched at full speed and too powerful for the Parisian defense. On the side of the Soldats Rose, Marchant thought of scoring a try which was ultimately refused for a forward. La Rochelle remained undefeated at home and won 35-18.
