Caen won 2-0 this Saturday afternoon against Bastia during the 12th day of Ligue 2. With goals from Alexandre Mendy, again, and Bilal Brahimi. This victory, the second in the space of a week, allows Caen to move up a little in the standings after a poor start to the season. Malherbe is now 13th in the championship.
Ziad Hammoud still trusts Seube
Ziad Hammoud, the new president of Stade Malherbe spoke on France Bleu at the end of the meeting. Nicolas Seube is confirmed as coach. “You shouldn't hear all the noises. We continue to work. The idea is to keep working and the players keep working and everyone keeps working. This is the priority. Everything else is noise, and we don't pay much attention to it.“
Also questioned about the complicated start to the season for the Lower Normandy club, the businessman was optimistic. “It took a little while to light up. We arrived very late, the transfer window was well underway. We have medium and long term plans. So of course, this has to be reflected every week and the short term is by definition present in sport. But we are here to move forward with the project and we have no doubt about the ambition and the results that will arrive in the coming weeks and months. We're starting to get back on the basics and series, so we're very happy with that. There's still work to do, but that's what we're here for. So I will congratulate the team and all the players. We are moving forward.“
Other reactions after the victory against Bastia
Nicolas Seube, SMC coach. “It hasn't all been easy. We still need to improve our content, that’s for sure. I think we should have been behind in the first quarter of an hour. We are happy to have opened the score almost on our first situation. The scenario of the match means that it is perhaps easier in the heads also because we scored the second goal quickly too. But in content, we must cruelly raise our technical level, our ability to have different choices of play in possession. I find that we too often have the ball burning our feet, balls that we must not lose and which could have cost us very, very dearly today. No one is unbeatable. There is no status in this team. And the idea is that everyone gives their all and that we reshuffle the cards each time so that the team performs higher and higher. We made a choice on Tuesday on the composition. There, we have changed again, the entrants have been reversed and yet the result is identical. So that means we are right.“
Bilal Brahimi, scorer this Saturday. “It was a big match. Bastia was going fast on transitions. The match was very open and it's nice to take the three points. Regarding the free kick, just before I took it, Kalifa Coulibaly told me to place the ball towards the penalty spot because it's hard for goalkeepers to stop in this trajectory. It worked for me and I am very happy. I have to apply myself to all set pieces because they are goal-scoring situations every time. We must continue“.
Mickaël Le Bihan, decisive passer against Bastia. “We spoke well, we defended very well. We did the job. Maybe we had the success we lacked at the start of the season. Bastia hit the post in the first half, it could have changed the match. But we were able to score on the few chances we had. Now we have to keep the confidence.“
Malherbe's next match will take place on November 9 on the Metz pitch.
