Qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix, which takes place at Interlagos, will start late this Saturday. The rain disrupts the start of the event.
Qualifying for the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, initially scheduled for 3:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT), was delayed due to rain falling on the Interlagos circuit on Saturday in São Paulo. Less than an hour before the start of qualifying, a heavy downpour fell on the famous Brazilian track, leading the race management to postpone the deadline.
At 2:50 p.m. local time, the rain continued to fall, accompanied by thunderstorms, noted an AFP journalist. For the moment, no new departure time has been communicated. Earlier in the day, under bright sunshine, Briton Lando Norris, second overall behind leader Max Verstappen, won the penultimate sprint race of the season, ahead of his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen finished 4th after receiving a 5-second penalty for an infraction committed under the virtual safety car regime. In the championship, Verstappen has a 44-point lead before the traditional Grand Prix which will be contested on Sunday, from 6:00 p.m. (Paris time), where the three-time reigning champion will only start, at best, 6th. Indeed, the Red Bull driver received a five-place penalty due to a change of internal combustion engine beyond the authorized quotas.
