The young man from Romans-sur-Isère was a member of the Rugby Club Romanais Péageois (RCRP), the same club where Thomas Perotto, a 16-year-old teenager who was stabbed last year during a ball in Crépol (Drôme), played.
On Instagram, the club said it was “touched to the heart again” by this death.
A “gratuitous and totally senseless” act
“Nicolas is no more”, reacted the mayor of Romans-sur-Isère Marie-Hélène Thoraval on , she lamented.
Two other people, more lightly injured during the shooting, remain hospitalized, said deputy prosecutor Charlotte Cerna, adding that the investigation “continues” and has not given rise to any arrests at this stage.
The shooting, which is believed to be linked to drug trafficking, broke out around 2:30 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of a nightclub in Saint-Péray (Ardèche), west of Valence, according to a police source. According to the first elements of the investigation, the perpetrator of the shots was dressed in black and had his face hidden under a hood. He fired a handgun before fleeing.
