Runners are not the only ones who have to prepare for the new edition of the Nice – Cannes marathon. Scheduled for Sunday November 3, 2024 in the Alpes-Maritimes, it will cause some disruptions on the seaside and surrounding areas.
On the entire route, traffic will be prohibited in both directions at different times of the day. Here is an update on the restrictions, some of which will be applied from this Saturday, November 2 in the early evening.
4000 more participants
Next to 18 000 participants are expected for the new edition of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes. The event, launched in 2008, welcomed around 14,000 during its 15th edition, in 2023.
There will be several courses: the classic (42.195 km), the semi (2x21km, solo or duo) and the relay (from 3 to 10.8 km, between 3 and 6 people). To enable the events to run smoothly, restrictions will be applied over a large part of the coastline. You will therefore need favor either public transport or alternative routes.
What are the bans in Nice?
The departure will be on the Promenade des Anglais. Sunday it will be closed between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday. Traffic bans are also planned between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., between the Promenade and the airport, and between 3 a.m. and noon in Nice center.
The constraints concern also cyclists since the slopes of rue du Congrès, avenue de Verdun, avenue Max Gallo and Quai des Samedis will be closed between 3 a.m. and noon.
It will also be impossible to park on certain sections between this Saturday 8 p.m. and this Sunday noon.
What are the bans in Cannes?
The Croisette, point of arrival, will be closed Sunday November 3 from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Depending on the section, closing times vary.
Traffic will be prohibited between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. between avenue du Maréchal Juin and Place Franklin-Roosevelt, and from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Franklin-Roosevelt and the Alexandre-III bridge.
Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Antibes…
Traffic and parking rules have also been set in the towns between : Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes…
Traffic will be closed along the route and on certain roads leading to it. from 6:30 a.m. The ban will be lifted as runners pass and structures are dismantled.
Pedestrian areas could also be set up, as in Antibes. There, one will go from avenue du Général Maizière to rue Aubernon, between 6:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The other from Boulevard Maréchal-Joffre to Boulevard Président Wilson, between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
