Be careful on the roads Pyrenees-Orientales, this Tuesday, October 29. At the end of a Mediterranean episode much more intense than expected, and cumulative rainfall which exceeded 150mm around Perpignan, several roads in the department were closed to traffic by the authorities. We take stock.
Roads flooded and closed
The driest department in France had not experienced such rain for more than four years. Torrential precipitation fell until the middle of last night on a major part of the Pyrénées-Orientales, flooding numerous underground car parks, cellars and other low points.
On the Roussillon plain, several roads and ford crossings were closed to traffic, the Department announced this Tuesday morning. Here is the list:
- D59a: Cases-de-Pène ford crossing closed
- D617: Bompas ford crossing closed
- D617b: Villelongue-de-la-Salanque ford crossing closed
- D5: road closed between Rivesaltes and Peyrestortes
Finally, traffic is difficult on the RD 117, at the level of Espira-de-l'Agly. “The road is covered in mud, the roads department is on site to clean and secure the road,” warns the Department.
