For six years, Tom Ellis was Lucifer Morningstar. The British actor played the lord of the Underworld, tired of life in his kingdom, in Luciferavailable on Netflix. After the series ended in 2021, fans of the 45-year-old actor were surprised and delighted to see him return in a very different program this fall. Tom Ellis is currently starring in season 2 of Tell Me Liesseason 2 of which will soon arrive in France on Disney+. In this series created by Meaghan Oppenheimer, we follow the story of Lucy, a young woman who has just entered university, who develops a passion for Stephen, another older student. Their relationship, toxic and destructive, affects everyone around them, especially their friend groups. Among these friends, we find Bree, a young woman looking for love. In season 2, she believes she finds it in the arms of Oliver, a married professor, played by Tom Ellis. The bad news is that the actor will certainly not return in season 3 of the show.
Tom Ellis has no plans to make appearances again in Tell Me Lies
On October 15, while the last episode of season 2 of Tell Me Lies had just been released on Hulu in the United States, Meaghan Oppenheimer answered some questions from Variety. The screenwriter of the series is also Tom Ellis’ wife. Given the end of season 2, and the disgrace that has befallen Oliver’s character, she believes that there is little chance that he will return in a possible continuation of the story. “I think Tom only wanted to do one season. And then, this part of the story ends in a way that suits me perfectly. I don’t know what more we could do with him”this Meaghan Oppenheimer.
What inspired Meaghan Oppenheimer to create Tell Me Lies ?
“One of the reasons I wanted to do this series was to debunk the myth that only weak or stupid women get taken in by narcissists and bad people. That only stupid women are crushed by love. It happens to the strongest among us”explains Meaghan Oppenheimer. Clearly, Oliver (and therefore Tom Ellis) has shown everything he has to show on this front. A season 3 of Tell Me Lies has not yet been officially announced.
