This is proven with video recordings in the special edition of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”: The family would always tune in when Günther Jauch was on – and even as a toddler, Jörn Hellwig would cheer in front of the TV. Now he had to deal with a palette knife in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” What is that?
After all these years, the candidate can show whether he can make it to the million – and along the way creates a real novelty in the show. When it comes to 16,000 euros, Jauch asks the candidate on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” a question that causes him to stumble: What is a so-called palette knife particularly helpful for in the kitchen? The reason: At the anniversary show, several celebrities sit in the background and compete as a team in a guessing round. One of them: star chef Tim Mälzer! “Call me!” he calls from the background. Jörn Hellwig quickly realizes: A chef like him certainly knows what a palette knife is. The question is: would you have known it too? Not everyone has a palette knife at home, but most people have certainly seen it – for example in cooking and baking programs or in videos on the Internet. This is a long, specially shaped and curved knife that is used, for example, to spread cream all over cakes. So the correct answer is C.
Star chef Tim Mälzer intervenes in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”: Who knows the palette knife!
“Should we call him?” Günther Jauch wants to know from his candidate on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Since he still has his telephone joker, Jauch simulates a call. This has never happened before with “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”! Then Tim Mälzer answers and the two act out a telephone conversation. Candidate Jörn Hellwig reads the question out loud. “Excuse me?” Tim Mälzer calls out jokingly. Of course he knows the right answer – and can help the candidate out of trouble. The only bitter thing is that he actually knew what it was about. But the same applies to the anniversary question of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”: Better safe than sorry.
Mälzer can even explain exactly how the palette knife got its name: Strictly speaking, it’s not a knife because it doesn’t have a blade. It’s more of a palette that you can use to paint things on. But he can’t say anything more about it. “Now I’m out, I’m a chef and not a baker – but in general I know how to assess the device,” he says. And the viewers and candidate Jörn Hellwig also learned something. And in 25 years, says Günther Jauch, nothing like this has happened. By the way: The special edition of Hellwig ended “Who wants to be a millionaire?” In the end with a winnings of 32,000 euros – so the trip to the studio was worth it. ■
